Calvin nods toward Dani when we enter the restaurant. With his hand on the small of my back, he guides me through the crowded seating area. The warmth of his hand helps to calm me a bit. I’m his; we’re a team.

Dani doesn’t stand to greet us or smile as we join her at the table. Calvin pulls my chair out before sitting beside me.
