Daniel’s reaction to my thanking him bothered me as I prepared for the day. I considered what he had done for me as I brushed my teeth. He had nursed me back to health even when I tried to fight him off. I even left bruises on him, which I felt guilty for. It was true that he was the reason I was sick after what he put me through at the soccer field. But that made us even in my mind.
