"Nope," I answered. I considered telling Gina, but sometimes a woman had to figure it out herself. Or hear it from the horse's mouth.
Tony pushed his way in the middle of the group, but Katy kept the camera steady. "What are you birds talking about? What's going on?"
"Shhh, Tony," I said with my finger on my lips. "He's about to profess his love."
Tony crossed his arms, his shoes tossing up dirt as he scuffed them. "How in the world do you figure that?"
"Keep watching," Anessa said as she untied her apron.
Dominick approached Gina again, and this time she let him. "Rattle Snake!" he yelled at his collection of guys.
A young dude with almost as many muscles as the security guys stepped a few feet away from his bike. "Yeah, boss."
"How many women have I ever let into the farmhouse?" Dom asked.
Rattle Snake's eyes widened. "None, boss."
"And what's the rule on Gina?" Dominick continued.
"Um." The guy's gaze slid between the two of them. "You said if any of us even looked in her direction, you'd shove our dicks straight down our throats until we choked."
Gina snorted. It was more of an amused laugh. I'd been wrong earlier. Those two were perfect for each other. She'd probably hold the stick while he did the impaling.
Our group had mixed emotions. Katy watched with a sly smile, but Anessa and Tabitha wore grimaces.
"Not the time to talk about other girls," Tabitha said to Dominick loudly enough, so he heard as well as all of us.
A few of the security guys laughed. Ridge wasn't in the group, so he must not have returned from his trip yet. Officer Bradley and Detective Anderson were out of their police cars but leaning on the hoods. Either they were waiting to make sure their services weren't needed or they wanted to see the drama unfold as well.
I voted on option two.
There was a reason Anderson never left this town, even though he was the best cop.
Dominick flashed Tabitha an annoyed expression, but we all knew he couldn't do anything to her. Tabitha married Ridge Jefferson. Dominick didn't want a war with the SEALs.
Gina's expression randomly fell, and she spoke to the ground. "You won't want me. Not if you knew."
She let him touch her this time when he walked close enough to grab her hand. "Gina, I've wanted you since middle school."
His eyes flashed hurt when she turned away and took her hand with her. "I'm pregnant."
She barely spoke above a whisper, but the gasp that came from each of our groups said we'd all heard it. The motorcycle guys were hitting each other on the arms as if they were ready to have a friendly wrestling match. I had no idea what that meant. Officer Bradley glanced at Anderson with wide eyes. The security SEALs had the decency to stay stoic like they'd heard nothing dramatic.
Tabitha clutched her chest with her mouth open. Anessa crumbled her apron between her hands. Katy shook her head and continued to hold the camera steady. That took tremendous restraint. Pearl owed her big time.
"You knew about this?" Tony asked from behind me.
I shrugged. "How'd you figure that out?"
"You didn't so much as flinch when she said it. You're not that good at hiding expressions."
I narrowed my eyes and glared at him. My feet slipped on the edge of the road, and he caught my elbow to keep me up. "You and Broadrick are super annoying."
Dominick stood frozen on the side of the road. For a second, I worried his heart had stopped beating, but he eventually sucked in a breath as if he was coming back to life. I leaned forward to be closer to his response.
"What did you say?" he asked her, his voice suddenly hoarse.
"I said I'm pregnant," Gina repeated.
Dominick shook his head and almost stumbled on the side on the gravel edge of the road. "It's mine?"
I leaned forward more. Damn it, Broadrick, for stealing back his gum. It was a crap flavor, but it would have given me something to do since we didn't have popcorn. Dom's question proved that just because you wore a lot of leather and drove a loud bike, you might still be a moron.
Gina threw her head back and ran her fingers through her hair in frustration. "Of course, it's yours. Who else's would it be?"
Dominick stared at her, not speaking, as if he was seeing Gina for the first time. The left side of his lips slipped upward. It happened slowly, one tiny millimeter at a time, but it happened. Then the next thing he had a full out grin. A smile. It was a little terrifying on him to be honest.
Dominick didn't smile. I'd never really seen a smile. He probably only did it when he was killing someone. Or impaling them. My eyes widened. Holy shit. Maybe that's how he got the nickname. No, it was probably more the impaling that led to it. Not the smiling while impaling.
"I'm going to be a dad?" he asked in almost a whisper.
"No." Gina dropped her attention to him again, and he stiffened. "Vonnie is taking me to the bus stop and I'm going to Chicago to raise the baby alone."
"The fuck you are," he answered immediately. There's the reaction I expected.
"You can't tell me what to do," Gina said, and something about this argument seemed familiar.
Dominick grabbed her hand again and kissed the knuckles. We all silently swooned. Well, not Tony, because he was a guy. "Babe, you're not going anywhere."
"Yes, I am." She tried to jerk her hand away but somehow ended up in his arms. Classic.
Dominick laughed. "Nope. I love you, and that means you're mine."
Gina jerked in shock and stopped struggling. "You love me?"
"More than heaven itself," Dominick said and kissed her. Gina kissed him back just as hard.
Tabitha wiped a tear from her eye. "And that's settled."
"It's settled?" Tony asked. "Because he said he loved her?"
Tabitha nodded. "And the kiss."
"Yeah, it was the kiss," Anessa chimed in.
Katy lowered her phone. "Now they just ride off into the sunset."
"How do you know?" Tony asked with a squinty face. "They were fighting a minute ago."
"Someone find me a helmet!" Dominick yelled at his crew. "Gina rides home with me."
I sighed and tipped my head to the side. "How romantic. I wish Broadrick had told me that and then whisked me away on his motorcycle."
"I want a baby," Tabitha said, and we all turned our attention to her with various expressions. Mine said shock. Or maybe...no it was shock. "What?"
Tony shook his head with a groan. "You women are nothing but trouble. Go home, Vonnie."
So bossy.
He stalked off back to his truck in the same manner he'd gotten out of it. To head him off at the pass, I grabbed my cell phone and texted Broadrick.
VONNIE: Whatever Tony says happened is a lie.
Gina walked over wearing a black helmet. "Hey, so, thanks for everything, but I guess I don't need that ride."
I smiled as she fought to find the words. "You're going to go home with Dom?"
One of the biker guys opened the passenger side door of my car and grabbed Gina's duffle bag. She nodded. "I guess we have some things to talk about."
"I guess you do. Congratulations, babe. Dom will be a protective dad." If he wasn't, we'd all kick his ass. "I'll pick you up for cupcakes next week."
She nodded and then turned when Dominick approached, except he continued walking toward us until he stopped directly in front of me. "Never kidnap my woman again."
"What?" My nose crinkled in annoyance. "That wasn't a kidnapping."
Dominick didn't stick around to argue with me about it. He scooped Gina into his arms and carried her to his bike. Her giggles seeped through the helmet.
What a night.
Broadrick still hadn't responded to my text by the time Officer Bradley rounded us up and told us to vacate the area or he'd start handing out arrests.
I drove back into town and stayed in the car, staring at the unanswered texts from Broadrick. Was his "I love you" text the last one before he lost signal? I told him to tell me before it happened. Did he think that counted? Because that definitely didn't count.
