CHAPTER 4 — Delivery!!!!

CHAPTER 4 — Delivery!!!!

“Sir, do I have to go?”

Mr Monroe shot me a glare. “Am I supposed to answer that?”

I faltered, holding the paper up to him. “Sir, it's… it's the Alpha's mansion. Don't you think you should like… deliver this yourself? As a sign of respect.. or something.”

He stared blankly at me for a minute, then his eyes narrowed, like there was sense in the nonsense I was spitting.

“It's a large delivery. They're probably having a board meeting or something. You wouldn't even have to go in, Raven. The butler will get the delivery from you at the door.” He explained.

I was far from satisfied. “But…”

“You handle deliveries in this restaurant, Raven. It's in your job description. Do I have to bring the contract to you?”

I lowered my head. “No sir.”

“Good. Now get out of here.”

At this point, I am completely convinced that my luck is cursed. With a loud groan, I walked out of the building the same way I came in, but this time with several bags of food in my hands.

The company's car was ready and waiting. I arranged the delivery at the back, slipping into the front with the driver.

The ride was silent, as usual, but unbearably long. Eventually though, we reached, and as he drove through the automated gates, my lips fell open.

Everyone knew the Alpha's mansion was like a place straight out of a movie, but only a few had actually been here to see for themselves. Even though, my father was the beta, I had never been here.

The building looked like it belonged in heaven. A greater part of it was painted in white, while the other part were transparent walls. Cypress trees adorned the driveway, an open garage displaying series of cars, all white.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, groaning when it wouldn't bulge.

It's just a delivery. I told myself as I slipped out of the car.

“I won't be long,” I said to the driver.

He glanced at me through the rearview mirror. “Take your time.”

Take my time? I didn't even want to be here.

With shaky legs, I walked to the front door. However, as my finger made to touch the doorbell, the door pulled open. A gasp escaped my lips before I could stop myself.

At least it wasn't the Alpha standing in front of me.

“Delivery!” I blurted out.

The man looked like he was in a hurry. He glanced inside, then back at me, as if struggling to make a decision. “Enter and hand the order to the first person you see.”

He was already walking past me as he spoke. My eyes widened. “What?”

“I have something urgent I need to attend to.” He threw at me, right before he slipped into a car and drove out.

I was left standing there, heart in my throat. Oh heavens! This wasn't the plan!

I stood there contemplating what the fuck I was going to do. I barely heard the footsteps stomping down a staircase. I only heard a voice, from the very person I was trying to avoid.

“Is that the delivery? Bring it in.”

My heart stopped instantly. No! I wanted to scream. I was frozen in place, too shocked to move.

I heard an impatient growl, right before he appeared before me. “Why are you standing there like…”

Our eyes met, him trailing off. In one second, three different emotions flashed through his eyes — recognition, shock, and something else I couldn't fathom. This one was darker, and lasted longer.

Something in my brain clicked, and I instantly lowered my head, breaking the contact. “Alpha!”

“Raven.” He said, his voice low and hoarse, different from when he walked in.

He knew my name? Of course, he knew my name. I was the Beta's daughter.

The silence was stretching longer than a beat, and my right leg was beginning to bounce anxiously. I could feel him staring at me, his gaze filled with heat.

“Your delivery, Alpha.” I said, my words almost overlapping each other.

I managed a glance at him, sighting as his eyes darkened further. Memories of last night flooded my mind, what he said about making me call him Alpha… Raven! Right now? Seriously?

He didn't take the bags from my hand. Instead, he asked, “How's your father?”

I nodded, realizing only afterwards that wasn't an answer. “He’s fine.”

“And you?”

I glanced at him, then away. “What?”

“How are you?”

I swallowed. “I…” Why the hell was he asking? “I’m fine, Alpha. I mean… sir.”

I wanted to slam my head against a wall. If I kept this up, he'd recognize me, and then, my life would officially be ruined.

“Delivery, sir.” I repeated, eager to leave.

Another set of footsteps echoed, a second face appearing beside the Alpha. It was Gamma Jacob.

“I'll take that.” He said, immediately relieving me of the weight of the bags. Then, he smiled. “Oh! It's you, Raven.”

I managed a smile, my stomach clenching. “I’ll take my leave now. The driver's waiting.”

I didn't wait for a response. I turned on my heels, and began to walk to the car. Until, a voice stopped me.

“Raven!”

His voice!

I held my breath as I turned to him. Our eyes met again, and… oh Moon! Are these butterflies in my belly?

He smiled, if you could call the blink-and-you-miss-it lip movement, a smile. “You look good!”

My brain freaking stopped.

“...”
