Serena pov

The morning fog clung to the Nightshade grounds like a veil, thick and stubborn. I stayed close to the edge of the training yard, hidden behind the gnarled branches of the pine grove, my fingers gripping the rough bark as though it could anchor me to this reality.

My stomach tightened in knots I couldn’t unravel. Every time I saw her, the impostor, walking beside him, laughing like she owned the air, my chest felt as if it had been hollowed out.
