Less than a week after the birth of Mrs. Petticoats’ puppies, I awoke to softly falling snowflakes outside my window. The Montana winter had arrived a bit early.

I almost never saw snow back in Texas. Even then, Texas snow usually melted as soon as the sun came up. I can’t imagine the ground being covered for days or weeks, or even months.
