I stood frozen, staring at him, my heart hammering so fast I thought it might jump out of my ribcage. My fingers trembled as they held the doorframe. I swallowed hard, trying to make sense of what I had just heard. Had I really heard him right? Or was I hallucinating?

“What did…you…say?” I stuttered, my voice barely above a whisper.
