Everything happened too fast.

Before my brain could even process what was going on, Davis grabbed a glass vase from the side table and swung straight at Emily.

“Emily!”

Glass cracked and she cried out, her hands flying to her head as blood instantly spilled down her forehead. Her body swayed, her knees giving out, and I was there just in time, catching her as she collapsed into my arms.
