Chapter 8; Suspicions.

The maximum number of persons per company for the on site inspection was two persons. Indigo insisted she had to be one of the parties to go for the inspection but Irene was against it. “And who are the two going for the inspection?“ Indigo demanded.

“Frederick and I.“ Irene said as-a-matter-of-factly.

“That is not happening. Why don't you take a rest, Irene? Your workload puts extreme pressure on you. You need to rest.“ Indigo faked some concern and patted her.

Irene slapped her hand away in disgust and sneered, “Go fuck yourself.“

“Like how he fucks you?“

Irene paused, “What do you mean?“

“You know what I mean.“ Indigo closed in on her, continuing:

“And if you're going to pretend you don't, we'll see what the CEO has to say about that.“ She said in a menacing tone.

Irene narrowed her eyes. “You dare to threaten me?“ She asked through gritted teeth.

“You will surely regret this.“ she turned away and added, “You can go in my place, then.“

“No. McKinney goes with a body cam and I receive the feed.“

Irene folded her arms, “what are you plotting?“

“I should be asking you that.“ Indigo replied with a lopsided smile.

Just outside the estate where Skyline Tower was located, Indigo sat in a GR Corolla which she had parked in a not too conspicuous position. She watched the guests as they arrived in their vehicles taking note of the number of companies that came.

“They're more than I thought. Seven companies really.“ She mused then switched to watch Frederick's feed.

From the feed she saw, they were taking an elevator upstairs.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Skyline Tower.“ The host began.

“As we explore this building, imagine a sleek, 55 storey structure with 650 condominium units, offering breathtaking views of the cityscape.“

The elevator stopped.

“Here, we are going to explore the various amenities, including a cutting-edge fitness center, yoga and Pilates training room, a 75-feet temperature-controlled swimming pool, a sauna, spa, steam room, private treatment rooms and children's playroom.“

“I have a question, Mr Jefferson.“ A bespectacled lady interrupted.

“Please go ahead Miss.“ He replied cordially.

“What inspired the design of Skyline Tower? Who built it?“

Mr Jefferson was quite stumped.

In the vehicle, Indigo's ears perked up. This was very important because if Mr Jefferson narrated the building's history, she might find out if Orixcorp was present or not. However at the crucial moment, the feed was cut off; no audio, no video. She was frustrated but her suspicions were beginning to form. She just required proof. And for that, she needed to go after them.

As she stepped out of the car, she heard a voice, “Hey, you live around here?“

She looked at him, a young handsome dude in casual rag jeans and a hooded sweater. He looked a little out of place, considering the weather was hot and everyone dressed somewhat formally around there.

“No. Who are you?“ She asked with undisguised distrust.

“Come on gal, don't be so distrustful of people.“ He laughed.

“They call me Petals.“

“Petals? As in flower petals?“ She asked with a doubtful look.

“Yeah.“ He assured.

She snickered “That's feminine.“

“Nah. It's cool.“ He shrugged.

“You?“

“Indigo.“

“Whoa.“ He said exaggeratedly “you're messing with me, right? That's a colour!“ He laughed.

She shrugged, “I guess people have weird names then.“

“Yeah.“ And they stared at each other for an awkward moment.

“I'm going over to that building.“ He pointed at the Skyline Tower.

“My friend's in there.“ he explained.

“I'm heading there too.“ She locked the car and left with him.

“Mckinney, what happened in there?“ Indigo asked after the tour was over.

“The body cam malfunctioned. Was I supposed to fix it in there?“ He asked in self defence.

“So what did Mr Jefferson say about the building's origin?“

“Nothing much. He just admitted he didn't know.“

“If you think I will believe that crap you better think twice. What. did. he. say?“ She accentuated, her expression cold.

“You can ask Irene if you don't believe me.“ He spread out his hands, unconcerned.

Indigo clenched her jaw,

“I came looking for you.“

“I had some alone time with her. You know of our relationship now, don't you?“

Irene walked up to them at this juncture.

“He won't be attending the auction .“ Indigo declared, “He is untrustworthy.“

Irene chuckled, then folded her arms, “Says who? He doesn't need to earn your trust. If I say he goes, then he goes.“

“Irene, I am the Supervisor here and this conduct will be reported.“ She glared.

“This is my unit. Besides, no one will believe you.“ Irene rebutted.

“So, is this some part of your game to 'destroy' me? Is he helping you?“ Indigo gave her a look of pity. As far as she knew, Frederick was a sissy.

“Helping to destroy you? what the fuck do you mean?“ Frederick asked, wide-eyed.

“Keep him out of this, Indigo.“ She warned like a provoked tigress.

Indigo gave them a long look, then walked away.

“Damn, I like that act of yours, Irene. It was so real.“

“I should be complimenting you. I bet she thinks you're innocent.“

They laughed.

“She will fall for it, no?“ He asked, staring at the open sky.

“I bet she will.“

Indigo was mulling over the success of her plan. She had wanted him to go in with a body cam so she could determine if he was clean or not. The fact that the body cam went off showed he was trying to hide something hence he was suspicious. She could no longer trust him or Carla. Hell, Irene could use anyone to get to her—including Mrs Johnny. She had to be extra careful to make sure the project was completed and that she got out unhurt.

I'm glad the auction is in three days. All these will end soon. She hoped, waiting for the elevator.

When it opened, she went in and mistakenly knocked into a muscular chest. A cool male cologne filled her stinging nose.

She looked up to behold the man she never wanted to run into that day; the alluring god of looks.

“I called you several times. Where was your phone?“ He questioned in a deep voice that sent slight shivers down her spine.
