Chapter 2: A Bump Zora POV… … .
She turned to me, a sly smile hanging on her lower lip. “Today is going to be a….” Her words caught in her throat when our car collided with another. What?
“What the hell is that, Danny?” I forced out in panic. “Who did we bump into?”
“I told you to be fast and not to kill us,” Harper hammered, her words catching me off guard.
“This isn’t the time to clash blame on each other; we need to know who we bumped into. Danny, go check. I will join you out now.” I arranged my phone and bag, ready to slide down from the car with my driver. Luckily, we didn’t have this accident while still on the main road; it would have been very dangerous.
“Are you blind that you bumped into this car?” a man cried from outside, making me hurry out from the car, even though I wasn’t done arranging whatsoever I wanted to.
“Are you leaving me behind?” Harper called after me, but I played dumb. How could she seriously be asking me that at this moment?
“You can’t just put the blame on me too; we bumped into each other, so don’t make things difficult,” Danny said calmly. He is always the kind and peaceful one. “Besides, no harm was done to your car, so don’t make things hard and let’s just settle this amicably,” Danny continued.
I scoffed at the man dirty character. Who begs a rude man, and why does this car look too familiar? “I will handle it; wait for me in the car.” My instructions were plain and straight to the point.
“But, ma’am…” Danny tried to protest, but I stopped him immediately with a hand wave.
“What do you want? It’s obvious we bumped into each other, so why try to make a deal out of this?” I was irritated by his guts. He let out a cheesy scoff before replying, “I am making a deal out of this? Do you know what my boss would do to me if you don’t compensate me?” As his words drew to an end, I could sense it; an Innocent plea for help.
“Your boss? Why would your boss do anything to you if I don’t compensate you?” My patience was wearing thin, and I was tired of standing under the scorching sun to bargain with someone.
I had to make things quick and get the hell out of here; besides, I had an appointment to meet up with. “How much do you want? Name it.” I had never been this straightforward in my life.
“I…” he couldn’t even make a sentence when a voice interrupted.
As soon as the voice came, the back seat of his car opened, and, just like a dream, Adrian Wolfe stepped down from the car.
Adrian Wolfe? He… No wonder the car looked so familiar. No wonder I was so certain I had seen the car in different places. And what about this new driver? This wasn’t the last one who drove him.
“As if he sticks with one employee,” I scoffed. I never meet him with the same drivers; he changes them like clothes.
My eyebrow narrowed in fury, my fist clenched in anger, and my teeth sneered at each other. I couldn’t believe it – Adrian Wolfe? I had been trying to negotiate with Adrian Wolfe? My anger surged deeper.
“Well! Well! Look who we have here, the almighty Zo…”
“Don’t dare mention my name with those unworthy lips of yours,” I stared daggers at him, as if eyes could kill..hmmm.
“If I knew this car was yours, I wouldn’t even bother stopping, but here we are,” I sneered further, like a tigress going for war. I was ready to bounce on him with any chance that surrendered itself.
“Well, it seems you are one lucky lady. I would have asked you to pay for employing such an incompetent driver, but I would just let it pass since I am in a good mood.” His voice dropped with annoyance. I watched as his throat vibrated, and I could only think of one thing: hold it till life is snatched.
“One lucky lady? And what gave you the right to think such? Just name your fucking price, and I will…” “What am I even saying? Why should I pay you for a mistake that even your driver made? You should be the one paying for hiring such a rude and inconsiderate driver.” I fired back, my teeth clicking against each other.
“Oh, my! Adrian,” I heard behind me. I didn’t bother to turn; even a dummy would know that was Harper.
“Oh, Adrian, it’s been a while since I saw you.” She hurried off to him, totally ignoring me. I hate that so much. I wonder why she acts like a fan around Adrian instead of a friend. For Christ’s sake, we are all family friends.
“Can I have your contact? I have something really important to say to you later on,” she shamelessly shoved her phone into Adrian’s hands.
“Done!” He dialed whatever he wanted and handed the phone over to Harper, who collected it happily. She jumped high, like she had won a lottery, and that only made the jerk more proud and confident.
The way he grinned from ear to ear said it all. His pride was killing me, and I couldn’t stand it anymore. “Are you going with me or with him? Choose wisely.” I glared at Harper, certain she would make the right choice.
“I would be in the car; join me immediately…” I turned to leave. Don’t have time to spare with this jerk anymore.
“Since you both are heading to the studio for the photoshoot, I will go with Adrian.” The words slipped her lips like they were nothing. I felt backstabbed.
“Did you just choose him over me, your best friend? I can’t believe this.” Disappointment surged through me as I hurried off to the car. I was the loser, and it hurt me to the core.
“I won’t let this slide. I will get back at both of them for making a mockery of me so badly.” I fixed my seatbelt, seething in anger. “How could she follow him shamelessly like…” My words hung in my throat as a call hit my phone.
“Who is it… Dad?” I picked the call, and placed the phone gently on my right ear.
“Please come back home urgently; something came back… something…” His voice trailed off just like that.
What was the matter? My heart beat hard against my chest like it would explode; my hands shook in panic as I tried to redial Dad’s phone, but I got the worst response: “Number switched off.”
How was that possible? How can a line that just called me now, be switched off? “Turn the car immediately; take me back home, right now.” I couldn’t think straight; what was wrong?
