Ms. Shelton was quiet for a while. The silence was maddening and I gripped the arms of my chair, desperate for her to just get it all over with and fire me already. I could tell she was trying to process what to say and it made me even more nervous. I would have rather she just blurt it out, but that was clearly too careless for her taste.
