She was gone, but her scent lingered, folded into the air itself.

Yawning, I sat up on the bed and my gaze drifted to my laptop on the nightstand.

My Mabel.

She'd set it there after I dozed off last night.

Holding in a smile, I slid out of bed and checked up on the kids in their room.

They were still asleep, snuggled beneath their covers. But the moment I turned to leave, Eloise stirred.

“Daddy?”

Her brothers also stirred.
