I don’t let myself look back when I slip out of Jaxton’s hotel room.

If I turn around, if I see him half-asleep in that tousled way he has, looking as beautiful as ever, I might fall apart.

And I can’t. I don’t get to be that girl. Not today. Not with a wedding dress waiting for me in my parents’ mansion and a future I never chose closing around my damn throat.

My phone won’t stop buzzing. It’s almost vibrating out of my hand, but I don’t check it just yet.
