Shortly after Vivienne takes her leave, Jareth and Briony trail behind without saying a word. Jonah lingers momentarily, appearing unsure whether to stay or go, but I wave him off firmly. I want no part of the turmoil he drags around like a storm cloud. The farther he remains from Lyra and me, the quieter and smoother our lives will be.
