There’s no safe way to answer without setting him off. Dr. Malcom had been explicit: Jonah can’t hear anything about the last five years. He needs room to heal first. Only after that can we try to coax memories back—rebuilding our story through familiar places, repeated moments, the milestones we once shared.

If I spell it out for him, it could shatter him.
