Chapter 3

W&E Corporation

Melinda

“Follow me, Miss Melinda.” The receptionist said that after making a call, I thought I would be sent away. I followed suit and she took me to their guest room, which I recognized instantly. After all, I have been welcomed here before, so it wasn't new to me.

The moment I pulled the door open, someone seemed tense and surprised as his gaze landed on me. It was Steward James, Ezekiel's right-hand man and secretary. He immediately rushed to receive me.

The shock on his face was so obvious that no matter how hard he tried to hide it, it was still obvious.

“Miss Melinda, why are you here?”

“It's Mrs, for you!” I corrected him instantly. I know I might have liked being addressed as Miss but now it's different and I would appreciate being addressed as ‘Mrs’

“Oh,” he said with a priceless expression.

“Is he in his office?” I asked, glancing at the man making sure to follow the expression that followed his response.

He looked at me with curiosity in those eyes of his; he seemed to be worried, wondering if I had come to find his boss trouble like I had always done.

“Mr Ezekiel is currently in a meeting. He'll probably need three hours or more before he finishes,” he said, trying to avoid my eye contact.

I chuckled dryly and sent him a deadly glare, making sure to send shivers down his spine as he began shaking vigorously.

“Am I this strict in my previous life?” I thought inwardly, feeling a little bit guilty at the sight in front of me.

“Are you telling me the truth, Steward James? I don't know if you're aware that I hate lies a lot?”

“Yes, Mrs Melinda. I am telling the truth,” he said while I nodded briefly with a light smile plastered on my cheeks.

“It's okay, take me to his office, I'll wait for him there,” I said, and I could see the bewilderment on steward James's face, making me wonder if I had said something wrong.

“What's wrong, steward James?”

“Nothing ma'am, please follow me as I lead the way.”

I was brought to the man's office, and yet everything looked the same; there was no difference at all. It was a modern office, large and comfortable.

The design may look simple to a flashy person but it screamed luxury. The most attention-grabbing item in the office was the memorabilia, which showcased the company's history and achievements, as showcased through the mementos.

He has always excelled in anything he does, so it wasn't a surprise that the man became more successful in the future. Even before he became the successor of the Williams family, he once set up a robotics company three years ago, and it went viral and became a worldwide success, which led to the succession being passed unto him.

The man is a two-time CEO of two different successful companies at his age and is thinking about his future. He would definitely become a legendary CEO known worldwide.

I yawned tiredly when my eyes met a familiar door. I stood up and walked towards it, examining it. I tried pushing the door open, but the door was locked, and it required some pins to enter the room.

I thought so hard to think of what the pink could be but all my attempts were incorrect. I decided to try the man's birthday date but it was still the same thing.

“Damn you, Ezekiel!” I cursed loudly, feeling annoyed after several attempts.

“Maybe I should try the date we got married.” I thought with a chuckle, even though it was obvious it could never be, but since I only have one last attempt, and that was the only thing else I could come up with.

“Click!”

The sound of the door opening echoed right into my ear, I stood still, shocked, speechless, unable to believe what had just happened. I mean, am I dreaming or have I lost my brain or eyes?

The pin I had just inputted was none other than when we got married, April 24, 2020. I felt my forehead covered in sweat as the whole thing seemed surreal to me.

I pushed the door open and stepped inside, but the room didn't seem like a place where someone just takes a short nap. It looks like where someone is living, which means Ezekiel lives here just to avoid my troubles.

Just the thought of the man never coming home, then sleeping in his office, made my heart heavy. I couldn't help but feel so bad. I felt so guilty that I couldn't help clenching my fist as I walked fully inside.

I mean even though our marriage was never based on love. It was quite unexpected that the man remembered the date vividly.

I checked out the whole place just to be sure and truly, the man does live here. I mean, I could see a toothbrush. The only thing left unchecked is the man's drawer, which I don't think is necessary to check.

I stood still watching the drawer solemnly and took a step to leave but something in me still wanted to check out the man's drawer even though I was invading the man's privacy.

It required pins, and I didn't hesitate to input our wedding anniversary date, and it opened instantly, leaving me speechless for the second time.

“Does that mean our wedding day was so important to him or could there be another meaning to it?” I pondered as my thoughts ran wide.

I pulled the drawer open only to be welcomed with a variety of my pictures in the drawer. I fell back on the floor, breathing heavily, trying to catch my breath. I had thought figuring out about the pins would be quite shocking but this time around, this was more shocking than I could ever have imagined.

I reached out to the pictures and the first one was the one of my eighteenth birthday. Each of the pictures followed accordingly till my twenty-third birthday. And not only that, there was a picture of me receiving an award from college.

Those pictures seemed to be taken on important days in my life, and what I noticed among those pictures was that they seemed to have been taken by the same person and were not taken by a professional person.

All this still seems surreal to me.

~~~~~
I waited till nighttime, but the man is yet to be back. Even though I barely had a good rest since my return, I could only force myself to remain awake with my eyelid open wide.
I mean, everything that has happened today even seems to add to my tiredness. Even if I plan on having my eyes shut, it seemed too heavy for me, so I could barely endure having it closed.
But after waiting endlessly, I could finally have it closed and softly drifted off to dreamland.
Ezekiel
The first thing that caught my eye was the sight of a familiar woman lying on the couch and dressed in a thin, long dress, which shows her cleavage, giving her posture on the leather couch.
Her gorgeous expression made her look even more attractive despite sleeping. I couldn't help but recall some scenes from last night.
Even if it were to be dark, I would definitely recognize her. There isn't a way I wouldn't recognize her.
But almost immediately, her eyelids twitched as she felt my eyes on her, and our gaze met and was solemnly focused on each other as if we were lost in an unknown realm.
I stood silently watching as she instantly sprang to her feet like she had just remembered something. But she seemed to have thousands of questions inside as she stood still scanning me from head to toe.
“You're back ….” She muttered.
“Hmm,” I said in my usual nonchalant tone as I walked towards the desk without sparing her a single glance but I could feel her eyes borne on me.
Almost immediately, the woman ran towards me, clutching onto my arms, leaving me speechless! That I had to wonder if some nut in her brain had loosened up.
I felt awkward, even though we are husband and wife, I knew she hated me so much that she wouldn't hesitate to go a thousand miles just to make me divorce her. So for her to keep such an act, I knew that was one of her schemes so I wasn't that surprised.
I glanced at the feminine hand that was still clutching tightly onto me, then slowly and firmly, I removed my hand from my arms, taking a few steps backwards from her. “Do you need something?”
She smiled brightly at me, which is unusual for her to smile; I mean, she always had this disgusting expression on whenever she was speaking with me. But now, she's smiling brightly.
“Must I need something before I can visit my dearest husband?” She asked with a seductive smile that I loosen my tie while I tried to remain silent and focused.
“How about we go back home and have dinner together?”
“I recently learned how to make some delicacies and I would like you to have a taste and rate them for me, Ezekiel.” She said softly, her voice sounds so soft and tender in my ears that I almost fell into that god-damned trap.
I smiled coldly, I could see through her schemes, and there wasn't a way I would fall into that voluntarily.
“Since spiking my wine isn't enough to get me to divorce you. Are you planning to use poison on yourself this time around?”
