Chapter 9 – The Serpent’s Whisper

Chapter 9 – The Serpent’s Whisper

Tatiana Rossi didn’t do late-night meetings. Not unless the person asking had leverage or was interesting enough to make her break her own rules.

And JK was both.

She stepped into the exclusive rooftop bar overlooking Washington’s skyline, her emerald dress clinging to her curves like liquid silk. Heads turned. Men stared. Women envied.

But JK was unfazed. He was already lounging at the corner booth, drink in hand, grin sharp as sin.

“Tatiana,” he drawled, standing to greet her. “You look like trouble in couture.”

She slid into the booth opposite him. “Flattery is boring, JK. Why am I here?”

The Hook

He raised his glass. “Straight to business. I like that. Fine. You’re here because you and I share… a common problem.”

Her eyes narrowed. “And what problem would that be?”

“Claire.”

The name dropped like poison into her champagne flute. Tatiana’s jaw tightened, though she masked it with a sip. “The assistant?”

“Assistant, marketing darling, rooftop dinner date,” JK listed lazily, tapping his glass. “Brad’s been keeping her close. Too close.”

Tatiana’s fingers stilled on the stem of her glass. “You’re lying.”

“Am I?” JK leaned forward, eyes gleaming. “I saw them last night. Dinner, wine, fireworks. And Brad kissed her like she was the only woman on earth.”

For the first time, Tatiana’s flawless composure cracked. A flicker of fire burned in her gaze.

The Manipulation

JK smirked, savoring it. “See, Brad’s always been… generous with his attention. But Claire? She’s not like us. She’s not polished. Not dangerous. She’s—” he paused, voice dropping to a silky whisper, “a nobody. And somehow, that makes her his weakness.”

Tatiana’s nails tapped against the table. “If he thinks he can replace me with a secretary”

“Then maybe he already has,” JK interrupted smoothly. “Unless…”

Tatiana arched a brow. “Unless what?”

“Unless we do something about it.”

The Deal

Tatiana studied him, suspicion curling in her chest. “Why do you care? Brad’s your best friend.”

“My best friend,” JK said with a laugh, “who always takes what I want. Every deal, every spotlight, every woman.” He leaned closer, eyes glinting. “But not this time. I’m tired of living in his shadow. And you, Tatiana, you’re too much of a goddess to let yourself be discarded for a girl like Claire.”

Tatiana’s lips curved into a slow, dangerous smile. “You want to take Brad down.”

“I want him to bleed,” JK admitted, his voice darkening. “And I think you want Claire out of the picture.”

Their eyes locked, two predators circling the same prey.

The Pact

Tatiana lifted her glass, her smile razor-sharp. “Fine. We want different things, but they align. You keep Brad distracted. I’ll deal with the little secretary.”

JK clinked his glass against hers. “Now that’s the Tatiana I know.”

She smirked. “Careful, JK. You may think you’re using me, but I never play second to anyone.”

He grinned wickedly. “Neither do I.”

The deal was sealed with champagne, but beneath the glittering city lights, the game had shifted.

The Cliffhanger

As Tatiana rose to leave, her phone buzzed. A message lit the screen.

Brad → Tatiana: Dinner tomorrow? Just us.

She froze for a moment, then glanced at JK, who caught the flicker of triumph in her eyes.

“Looks like the game is already in my favor,” she purred before walking away, hips swaying like a queen who’d just declared war.

JK watched her go, smile widening. “Oh, Brad… you have no idea what’s coming.”
