My eyes fluttered open as the sound of the monitor beeping frantically echoed loudly in my ears. I jumped out of the bed, running over to where she lay, and as my gaze flickered to the monitor, the jagged lines cleared off the drowsiness in my eyes.

“Mom?” I called out, my heart beating loudly against my chest.
