Betty's POV

I walked back into the ballroom like nothing had happened. My legs were still a bit shaky, skin still tingling, but I held my head high and painted that perfect smile on my face.

The room had settled down a bit as guests had taken their seats and the plates were out. The soft clatter of cutlery mixing with light chatter and the quartet playing something slow and elegant in the background brought it to a calm rhythm.
