Betty's POV

I felt something the moment I stepped inside. It wasn't just the silence but I knew. The lingering scent of burnt cigarettes in the air.

The apartment was too quiet.

The kind of quiet that presses against your ears until they ring.

The lights were off, yet the space wasn’t completely dark. Pale flashes of lightning filtered in through the glass wall, briefly illuminating the dark contrast of the apartment before plunging it back into shadow.
