Rowan's POV

The pain hit me before consciousness did, spreading through every part of my body in waves that made me want to sink back into the darkness I'd just climbed out of. My ribs throbbed with each breath and my side burned where Jared's blade had found me repeatedly, and when I tried to shift my weight even slightly the movement sent a sharp reminder through my thigh that made me bite down hard on my tongue to keep from making a sound.
