Chapter Sixty Five

Emma POV

The hospital smelled of antiseptic and faint perfume, a cold, sterile scent that made my stomach twist. I walked through the long corridor alone, my heels clicking against the tile, echoing like a metronome counting down my nerves. Each step felt heavier than the last. I clutched my bag against me, my fingers gripping the strap so tightly it left a mark in my palm.

“Please… please let her be okay,” I whispered under my breath, barely daring to breathe the words.
