I was dead to the world.

There was a huge wall between me and consciousness, me and reality. I tried to scale the wall but I kept falling down. Sometimes I didn't even know if I wanted to wake up. It was scary on the other side, reality was a monster with horns that was trying to kill me. I tried to scale the wall again, determined this time, and when I did, I didn't fall. I did it very gently so as to avoid mistakes and finally I made it to the other side.
