Chapter 134

Alpha Nathan Pov.

I shook my head angrily. Anger finally broke through my controlled exterior. "No, Emily! You tricked me from the very beginning! I requested a virgin blonde she-wolf, and instead, I got you. Then you stole my money and my child before vanishing without a trace. Now tell me plainly - what do you want? I'm ready to settle matters between us once and for all."

The built-up frustration and betrayal of months poured out now that pretense was no longer necessary. "Do you have any idea what your disappearance has done? Not just to me, but to the pack, to our alliances, to the fragile peace between species? Your actions have effects far beyond whatever personal problem drove you away."

I had decided to confront her directly, giving up on sneaking around. The waiting game had stretched my patience beyond its limits. She had become immortal, for God's sake! Each passing moment without knowledge of my child's fate was another moment of unbearable pain.

"Where is my child, Emily?" I demanded. My voice dropped to a dangerous growl. "That's all that truly matters now. Not your transformation, not your reasons for leaving, not whatever game you're playing by returning now. Just tell me where to find my heir, and perhaps we can resolve this without further conflict."

I meant this sincerely. Despite my anger, my main concern remained finding and getting back my child. Everything else, including Emily's punishment for her betrayal, was secondary to that overwhelming need.

Suddenly, loud knocking at my door interrupted our confrontation. I shouted harshly, "Stay away, all of you! This is a private matter!" The last thing I needed was interference from well-meaning pack members. They might accidentally complicate an already volatile situation.

I had given explicit instructions that we were not to be disturbed under any circumstances. Whoever dared interrupt now was directly disobeying their Alpha's command. Something that rarely happened in my strictly organized pack.

But Isabella's distinctive voice made me hesitate and crack open the door slightly. "It's Isabella. Let me in." Her tone carried urgency that couldn't be ignored. Despite the delicate confrontation in progress.

Isabella had earned my absolute trust over the years. She had proven herself a loyal friend and ally despite our complicated history. If she felt it necessary to interrupt at such a crucial moment, her reasons must be important.

Nevertheless, I kept being cautious. I opened the door just enough to speak through the gap without allowing Emily to escape.

I opened the door just enough to speak through the gap. Concern was evident in my hushed tone. "Stay back, Isabella. She's dangerous now - she's been transformed into a vampire. This isn't your battle."

I tried to shield Isabella from potential harm. I assumed Emily might react violently if cornered. Despite our years of friendship and alliance, I still felt a deep protective instinct toward Isabella. It was a leftover, perhaps, of our complicated past and my lingering guilt over how I had treated her before she found happiness with Kwan.

"Let me handle this," I insisted quietly. "I've got everything under control."

Despite my warning, Isabella forcefully pushed past me. She walked into the room with absolute confidence. She immediately confronted Emily with a threatening growl. "Where is the baby? Tell me now!"

Her directness stunned me. Isabella had always been straightforward, but this level of aggression was unusual even for her. She advanced on Emily without hesitation. She showed no fear despite facing a newly-turned vampire.

"Don't play games," she continued. Her voice was hard with authority. "We know you didn't act alone. Tell us who helped you, who turned you, and most importantly, where you've hidden the child."

Her fearlessness in the face of supernatural danger reminded me why she had always commanded such respect. Even before becoming Kwan's mate and queen.

Emily responded with obvious contempt. "Why would you possibly care? The child isn't yours." Her dismissive tone clearly intended to provoke.

She seemed genuinely confused by Isabella's passionate interest in my child's whereabouts. Perhaps she was unaware of how close Isabella and I had become as friends and allies in the years since our own complicated relationship had ended.

"This is between Nathan and me," she continued with growing hostility. "You have no place in this discussion. No right to demand anything from me."

Her posture shifted subtly. Her newfound vampire nature became more evident as her eyes darkened slightly with building aggression.

Isabella didn't hesitate. She delivered a powerful slap across Emily's face that echoed through the room. "I am the queen of werewolves and bear-shifters, and I am both asking and commanding you to reveal the location of the child! Answer me now!"

Her authority filled the room like a physical presence. The blow would have shattered a human's jaw. But Emily merely pulled back slightly. Her vampire constitution absorbed the impact with minimal damage.

Isabella's hand remained raised. She was clearly prepared to strike again if necessary. "That child is part of our extended pack, regardless of bloodline," she continued fiercely. "Every cub, every pup under our protection is sacred. And Nathan's heir especially so. You will tell us where to find this innocent child, or I promise you'll discover exactly why I'm feared even among immortals."

I stood speechless, watching this unexpected confrontation unfold. With each passing year, my silent admiration for Isabella had grown greatly. I had watched her from a respectful distance. Never interfering but always impressed by her strength and leadership.

The way she had transformed from a mate to a powerful, confident queen was remarkable. She had embraced her destiny and exceeded everyone's expectations. She became a ruler both loved and feared throughout the supernatural community.

Her unwavering loyalty to those she considered family - a circle she had graciously extended to include me despite our past - touched me deeply. "She fights for my child as fiercely as if it were her own," I realized with deep gratitude. I watched her confront Emily without a trace of fear.

Emily's face twisted with rage as she snarled, "My baby is perfectly safe with the vampire king, far from your reach." The moment these words left her lips, she lunged at Isabella's throat with inhuman speed.

The admission was clearly unintentional. It was provoked by anger rather than calculated revelation. But it provided the first concrete information about my child's location since Emily's disappearance.

The vampire king - that narrowed the search considerably. Though several powerful vampires claimed that title across different territories. Emily's attack was blindingly fast. Her newly acquired vampire abilities gave her advantages that even Isabella's hybrid nature might struggle to counter.

Her fingers extended into claws as she targeted Isabella's vulnerable throat with deadly intent.

Isabella reacted with remarkable composure. She delivered a series of precise punches and kicks that momentarily subdued Emily without shifting into her wolf form. The display of combat skill was impressive, especially against a vampire's enhanced abilities.

Isabella had clearly been training extensively since our last serious confrontation years ago. Her movements were fluid, calculated, and devastatingly effective. "You're stronger," she acknowledged to Emily as she blocked another attack. "But I've been fighting your kind for decades. Strength means nothing without technique."

She executed a complex move that momentarily disabled Emily. It created distance between them without causing permanent damage. "I don't want to hurt you," Isabella continued. Her breathing was still perfectly controlled despite the exertion. "Just tell us where the child is, and this can end peacefully."

"Isabella, shift now! Kill her before she recovers!" I called out urgently. I tried to pull Emily away whenever she managed to grasp Isabella's throat. My concern for Isabella's safety overwhelmed all other considerations.

Despite Isabella's impressive combat skills, a vampire's strength and speed posed genuine dangers. Particularly to someone who refused to use their full supernatural capabilities. "She's not holding back - why are you?" I demanded. I was frustrated by Isabella's restraint in the face of deadly attacks.

My protective instincts screamed for immediate, decisive action to eliminate the threat to someone I cared deeply about.

"Isabella! Shift immediately!" I commanded more forcefully, fearing for her life. My wolf was frantic, urging me to protect our ally. To eliminate the threat with maximum force.

Pack dynamics ran deep. Isabella might not be my mate, but she was pack-adjacent through her relationship with Kwan. This placed her firmly under my protection. The sight of her in danger, particularly from someone who had already betrayed me so deeply, triggered basic protective responses that overrode rational consideration.

Isabella shook her head determinedly. "No, I can't kill her yet. We need to discover your child's location first. Think rationally, Nathan!" Her voice cut through my rising bloodlust. It reminded me of the larger stakes involved.

Even as she spoke, she continued defending herself against Emily's increasingly frenzied attacks. She used the furniture and architecture of the room to maintain tactical advantage. "She's our only link to your baby," Isabella continued between defensive moves. "If we kill her without getting specific information, we might never find your child!"

Her logic was perfect. But my emotional response to seeing her in danger made it difficult to process rationally.

Ignoring her wisdom, I shifted forms and attacked Emily with unbridled fury. I clamped down on her neck with devastating force. The wolf took control completely. It was driven by accumulated rage, betrayal, and protective instinct.

In that moment, I wasn't Nathan the calculating Alpha. I was pure animal vengeance, seeking to eliminate a threat to pack and family. Isabella frantically tried to stop me. She pulled at my fur and shouted commands that barely penetrated my battle haze.

"Nathan, stop! Think of your child!" she pleaded, trying to break through to my human consciousness. "This solves nothing!" But the wolf had waited too long, endured too much. Rational thought had no place in the frenzy of combat.

In a moment of clarity, I grabbed a knife from a nearby table. I drove it mercilessly into Emily's heart. "Not Isabella! You will not harm Isabella!" I growled, watching the life drain from Emily's eyes.

As the silver-infused blade penetrated her heart, Emily's struggles weakened dramatically. Her supernatural strength began to fade as the specialized weapon - designed specifically for vampire incapacitation - did its work.

Her expression shifted from rage to confusion, then to something resembling acceptance as she realized her fate was sealed. For a brief moment, as death approached, the vicious vampire facade fell away. I glimpsed something of the human Emily I had once known - vulnerable, frightened, perhaps even sorry.

The sight should have given me pause. It might have triggered compassion in different circumstances. But my protective rage had progressed too far for such considerations.

I watched without emotion as Emily's struggles weakened. Her body was surrounded by an expanding pool of red. Her final breaths came in shallow gasps before stillness claimed her completely.

Only as her movement ceased entirely did my rational mind begin to reassert control. The implications of my actions crashed down with devastating clarity. "What have I done?" I thought with growing horror. "I've destroyed our only lead to finding my child."

The wolf receded, leaving the man to face the consequences of instinctual action. I shifted back to human form. I stared at my blood-covered hands with dawning regret not for Emily's death itself, but for the information that died with her.

Isabella knelt beside the lifeless body. Genuine distress was evident in her voice. "Oh my God, she's gone. I told you not to do this! What were you thinking? Why, Nathan, why?"

Her tone held no judgment, only deep concern for what this impulsive action might mean for our search. She carefully closed Emily's eyes. It was a gesture of respect despite the violence that had preceded it.

"All this time searching, and when we finally had a lead, a connection to your child's location..." She left the thought unfinished. But her implication was clear - my actions might have doomed my search to failure.

I rubbed my face wearily. Emotion finally broke through my hardened exterior. "I had to repay a debt. I had to make things right." The weight of my actions settled heavily on my shoulders.
