Chapter 89

Isabella Pov.

"I discovered the complete truth four years ago when researching hybrid genetics trying to understand my fertility issues. Everything became clear then—why I couldn't conceive despite years of trying, why my connection with Juan felt so immediately profound, why you've maintained your distance all this time."

Nathan's composure finally cracked completely, his jaw dropping in astonishment.

"What? How? When did you learn all this?" he demanded, clearly struggling to process that I had uncovered secrets so carefully maintained for years.

I continued with unwavering confidence, the strength I had discovered on the battlefield still flowing through my veins.

"That's also why I love Juan with such intensity—he filled the void of the children I physically cannot bear. And I believe Kwan has known the truth for some time as well, though we've never discussed it directly."

The realization that my hybrid nature prevented conception had been devastating initially, but accepting this reality had ultimately strengthened my bond with Juan, transforming me into the fierce maternal protector I had become.

"But I still love you," Nathan confessed quietly, vulnerability evident in his usually guarded expression.

"I've respected your choice and Kwan's happiness all these years, but I've never stopped caring. For my best friend's sake, I would gladly care for you and Juan, protect his Pack and legacy as my own."

His declaration was touching in its sincerity, reflecting the honorable man I had always known him to be.

However, the woman standing before him now was not the same uncertain girl who had once needed guidance and protection from powerful males.

I raised my hand to stop his well-intentioned but misguided offer, a gentle smile softening my refusal.

"My mate will not die today," I stated with absolute conviction.

"But even if the unthinkable happened, I would never return to you, Nathan."

Seeing hurt flash across his features, I quickly clarified my meaning.

"Not because you aren't worthy or good—you are among the finest men I've ever known. But because I am not the same person who once stood between two powerful Alphas, uncertain of her own worth and place in the world."

I moved toward the door, pausing with my hand on the handle to deliver my final truth.

"I cannot be with you because I have grown stronger than you ever imagined—only Kwan can truly match me now, only he can understand the woman I've become. Only with him do I feel completely myself, neither diminished nor overshadowed."

With quiet dignity, I opened the door and delivered my parting declaration:

"I AM THE ALPHA FEMALE, NOT ANYONE'S MISTRESS OR CONSOLATION PRIZE."

Without waiting for his response, I returned immediately to Kwan's chamber, desperate for news of his condition.

To my immense relief and surprise, I found him sitting upright on the edge of the bed, laughing with the attending physicians—pale and weakened, certainly, but showing no signs of the deadly venom that had threatened his life an hour earlier.

"Oh my god!" I gasped, rushing to kneel before him, examining his injured arm with trembling hands.

"You're alive! You're really okay!"

The wound remained angry and red, but the black tendrils of poison had receded completely, replaced by the normal healing process of a supernatural being.

Kwan smiled mischievously, brushing his thumb across my cheek with obvious affection.

"Yes, and I'm extremely pleased that you didn't immediately agree to mate with Nathan this time."

His teasing tone confused me momentarily until understanding dawned—he had heard my conversation with Nathan despite the closed door and considerable distance between rooms.

"You were listening?" I asked, embarrassment coloring my cheeks as I realized the extent of my passionate declaration.

Kwan cupped my face gently between his palms, drawing me closer until our foreheads touched.

"Your voice carries quite impressively when you're making emphatic points about Alpha females and dominance, my love. I believe everyone in the east wing heard your magnificent speech."

I blushed deeply at this revelation, but couldn't regret my honest words.

"Well, they needed to be said," I defended myself, though a small smile tugged at my lips. "I'm not the same person I was when you met me."

Kwan nodded agreement, pride evident in his expression as he regarded me thoughtfully.

"No, you certainly are not. The woman I fell in love with was beautiful and kind, but the woman before me now is magnificent—a true Alpha female in every sense."

His sincere admiration warmed me deeply, confirming that our relationship had evolved into something far more balanced and powerful than I could have imagined in those early uncertain days.

At that moment, Juan burst into the room, having finally escaped Mila's supervision in his determination to see his father.

"Dad! You're okay!" he exclaimed with palpable relief, launching himself onto the bed beside Kwan.

"The healers said you got poisoned by a vampire!"

His excited chatter filled the room as he demanded details of the battle, particularly interested in my unexpected participation.

"Mom fought too? Really?" he asked repeatedly, his eyes wide with newfound admiration as he looked between us.

"Grandpa said she killed a vampire all by herself!"

Kwan confirmed these reports with obvious pride, embellishing certain details of my courage that had me protesting his exaggerations while secretly pleased by his recognition.

The doctors soon interrupted our family reunion, insisting on completing Kwan's treatment and prescribing strict bed rest for at least twenty-four hours.

"The venom has been neutralized, but your body needs time to recover completely," the head physician explained firmly. "Any strenuous activity could trigger a relapse."

I escorted Juan from the room after he had satisfied himself of his father's recovery, promising he could return the following day when Kwan had rested properly.

As we walked together down the hallway, Juan looked up at me with newfound respect in his young eyes.

"Mom?" he asked thoughtfully. "Are you really part bear and part wolf? Grandpa said that's why you were so strong in the fight."

I considered how to explain my complex heritage to him in terms he could understand.

"Yes, I am both," I confirmed, resting my hand on his shoulder.

"My father is a bear shifter, and my mother came from a werewolf bloodline. Usually, hybrids can only shift into one form or the other, but sometimes, when protecting those we love most, special abilities can emerge."

He nodded seriously, processing this information with remarkable maturity for his age.

"Like when you thought I was in danger from the vampires?" he asked perceptively. "That's why you could fight so well?"

I nodded, impressed by his understanding.

"Exactly—a mother's love is the most powerful force in nature. There's nothing I wouldn't do to keep you safe."

The following morning, I woke unusually early, struck by a wave of nausea that sent me rushing to the bathroom.

After several minutes of unpleasant retching, I brushed my teeth and returned to the bedroom to find Kwan sitting upright, watching me with a curious expression.

"Are you alright?" he asked, patting the space beside him on the bed. "You look pale."

I settled next to him, about to dismiss my symptoms as stress from the previous day's events when another possibility suddenly occurred to me—one so unexpected that I hardly dared consider it.

"I'm probably just overtired," I replied automatically, even as my mind raced with calculations and possibilities. "Yesterday was... intense."

Kwan nodded thoughtfully, then surprised me by placing his hand gently against my abdomen.

"And you have two uteruses," he remarked casually, as though stating an obvious fact rather than a revelation.

I stared at him in complete confusion, certain I had misheard.

"Don't be ridiculous," I scoffed lightly. "That's not possible. We've been through this—my hybrid nature prevents conception. The Pack physicians confirmed it years ago."

But Kwan merely smiled that knowing smile that always suggested he understood something fundamental that had escaped everyone else's notice.

Before he could explain, doctors arrived for his morning examination, and I was ushered from the room despite my protests.

I spent the morning distracted, Kwan's strange comment replaying in my mind as I handled the necessary Pack business in his absence.

By midday, unable to contain my curiosity any longer, I sought out our most experienced healer—an elderly woman who had served three generations of Pack leaders.

"I need to ask you something... unusual," I began hesitantly after ensuring our privacy.

"Is it possible for someone of mixed heritage to have... anatomical differences that might not be immediately apparent?"

The healer regarded me thoughtfully before responding with careful precision.

"The blending of different shifter bloodlines can produce unique physiological variations—some documented, others exceedingly rare. What specifically concerns you, Luna?"

Before I could formulate my response, Juan burst into the room, followed closely by Kwan who had apparently ignored medical advice to remain in bed.

"Mom!" Juan exclaimed excitedly, clapping his hands with childish enthusiasm.

"Dad just told me the best news ever! Congratulations! You're going to have babies—three of them!"

His announcement froze me in place, my mind struggling to process the implications of his words.

"What?" I managed weakly, looking to Kwan for explanation.

My mate approached slowly, his expression a mixture of tenderness and amusement as he reached for my hand.

"The Pack physician confirmed it this morning—triplets. Your scent has changed, and your hormone levels are elevated. You're approximately six weeks pregnant."

"Is that real?" I whispered, unable to fully believe what I was hearing after years of disappointment and acceptance of my supposed infertility.

"How is this possible?"

Kwan placed his hand gently on my still-flat abdomen, his expression reverent as he explained.

"The ancient texts mention rare cases of bear-wolf hybrids developing dual reproductive systems that remain dormant until activated by extreme circumstances—like the transformation you experienced yesterday."

"The battle triggered changes in your physiology that even our best healers don't fully understand."

The explanation seemed fantastical, yet the hope blossoming in my chest made me desperate to believe it could be true.

A long, passionate kiss sealed this miraculous moment between us—a kiss that spoke of years of patience, shared disappointment, and now overwhelming joy at the impossible becoming possible.

When we finally separated, breathless and emotional, I searched Kwan's eyes for any sign of deception or misunderstanding.

"This is really happening? We're having babies?"

He nodded solemnly, pressing his forehead against mine in our familiar gesture of intimacy.

"Yes, Alpha female. You're pregnant with our children. And from this moment forward, you will remain in bed while all of us serve your every need and whim."

His attempt at sternness was undermined by the joyful sparkle in his eyes and the tender way his hands cradled my face.

"Oh my God!" I exclaimed, emotion finally overwhelming me as I fully accepted this miraculous reality.

"I love you so much, Kwan—more than I ever thought possible."

Tears streamed freely down my face as I embraced him carefully, mindful of his healing injury.

"You've given me everything I could ever want—a home, a family, purpose, and now children of our own."

Kwan placed his hand dramatically over his heart, his expression playfully wounded despite the genuine emotion in his eyes.

"Finally! All this time, I was beginning to think you only loved my love for you, not me directly."

His teasing drew a watery laugh from me as I recognized the kernel of truth in his jest—how long it had taken me to fully open my heart to him beyond gratitude for his devotion.

I placed a gentle kiss on his lips, pouring all my newfound certainty into the contact.

"Now I love you completely—more than myself, more than anything. My mate, my Alpha, and my eternal love."

His answering smile was radiant with happiness as he pulled me closer, whispering teasingly against my ear,

"Love you too, Isabella—as my Alpha female, as my Luna, and as my soulmate. But please, just once, won't you call me daddy?"

I pulled back, narrowing my eyes playfully despite the blush heating my cheeks at his suggestive tone.

"NEVER," I declared emphatically, though the laughter bubbling in my chest belied my stern response.

"Some things will never change, no matter how many children we have."
