Alpha Nathan Pov.
"But that's impossible," my beta protested. "The last Lycan was killed by Isabella during the final battle when he attempted to kill Ethan!"
"Apparently not," I replied grimly. "Either we missed one, or there's another pure-blood vampire out there that we didn't know about. This could be the Lycan king's son or brother who wasn't present during the war."
I felt completely lost and increasingly desperate! I needed additional resources to expedite the search for my baby and Emily. And to be completely honest, I was deeply concerned for Emily's safety as well. She was my child's mother, after all. I couldn't simply abandon her to a terrible fate because of her past mistakes or my own shortcomings.
"I've been too harsh with her," I admitted quietly to myself. "She was afraid, and I gave her reason to be."
Yes, I had my own troubled past and had made numerous mistakes. Even though I couldn't accept Emily as my true Luna and never fully trusted her to be my life partner, I had to acknowledge her importance as the mother of my child.
"I need to change," I told my beta. "I can't keep treating people this way. My selfishness put her in danger."
I immediately turned to one of my most trusted men and instructed him urgently, "Go immediately to Ethan's territory. Tell him everything that has happened and that I desperately need his assistance. Tell him vampires are involved."
We continued our search with renewed vigor, despite the rain and storms that made tracking increasingly difficult. We were all completely exhausted, soaked to the bone and chilled by the wind, but not one of us considered giving up hope of finding them.
"Spread out more," I ordered through our pack link. "Check every cave and hollow."
Unfortunately, the darkness and the heavy rainfall severely limited our visibility and made it nearly impossible to locate Emily's scent. The rain washed away any trace of her human smell almost immediately.
I tried desperately to detect my baby's unique scent, but newborns have such a faint, undeveloped smell signature that they're nearly impossible to track until they're at least a year old. Their adorable, innocent scent is too subtle for even the most experienced trackers to follow reliably over distances.
"Alpha," my beta called. "There's something over here. Footprints heading east."
Ethan eventually joined our search party, bringing additional wolves from his pack to help cover more ground. We continued searching tirelessly for days, exploring every possible route and hiding place, but found nothing conclusive.
After nearly a week of fruitless searching, we ly returned to my territory. I collapsed onto the floor of my office, emotionally and physically drained. "This appears to be the end of our search efforts," I announced to the exhausted wolves gathered around me.
Ethan placed a supportive hand on my shoulder. "How can you possibly say that? Just take some time to rest, and I'll personally continue searching for her and your child."
I shook my head firmly. "No, Ethan. That's enough. Please respect that fate has spoken. Some things aren't meant to be."
To everyone present at that meeting, it appeared that I had completely abandoned the search at this point. But in reality, I had simply changed my strategy. I didn't want everyone focused solely on combing the forest when I had discovered something significant.
In the bathroom where Emily had hidden her stolen goods, I found a letter she had left behind. It was as if she knew I would eventually discover her hiding place and wanted me to find this message. The letter read:
[I'm taking our baby with me for now. But I promise you this - when he or she is grown, I will return with your son or daughter. Someday you will meet your child again. My promises aren't easily broken like yours have been. I keep my word. I just hope that after ten or twenty years have passed, you will have become a better person than you are now. Goodbye, Alpha.]
Yes, I was devastated by the thought of waiting such an unbearably long time to meet my child. But her letter gave me important insight - she planned to return to human society rather than remaining in the wilderness. This completely changed my approach to finding them.
I redirected my resources toward searching human communities instead. I already had established businesses and connections in the human world, particularly in London, where I maintained several corporate offices. I spent most of my time there after that, ostensibly focusing on my business interests but secretly continuing my search for Emily and my child.
"Check hospital records for any recent births matching her description," I instructed my human investigators. "Monitor social services for any single mothers with newborns who suddenly appear in the system."
Despite my outward focus on business matters, I was emotionally devastated. But deep within me, an instinct told me that I would find them eventually. Something in my wolf's intuition assured me that this separation, painful as it was, would not be permanent.
"I will find you," I whispered each night to the stars. "Both of you."
Emily POV
The time had finally arrived to implement their mysterious plan. Yes, their plan - not mine. They had informed me that I needed to undergo a "transformation" to succeed in this mission. Honestly, I never imagined that transformation would involve being completely remade into a sexy, curvy blonde bombshell who, as an unexpected side effect, was nearly blind without special contacts!
"Hold still," the stylist they'd brought in commanded as she applied the finishing touches to my new look. "These colored contacts are essential to completing your disguise."
I stood admiring my reflection after the makeover was complete. I barely recognized myself, and I had to admit I looked absolutely stunning in this new incarnation. I initially thought this physical transformation would be the extent of the changes required of me.
"You look incredible," the vampire king said approvingly. "Nathan won't recognize you at all."
But I soon discovered, to my horror, that my real "transformation" would be far more invasive and dangerous than mere cosmetic changes.
"The physical changes are just the beginning," the queen explained calmly. "The rest will happen tonight."
I had no choice but to go along with whatever they demanded. They were keeping my precious baby as a hostage in their underground lair. I had to follow their instructions to the letter if I wanted any chance of saving my child.
"Where is my baby?" I asked daily. "Please just let me hold him for a few minutes."
"Your child is being well cared for," was always the cold response. "Focus on your mission."
I still couldn't believe that parents could orchestrate something so terrible against their own son, plotting to kill the woman he loved. But my personal feelings on the matter were irrelevant. I was prepared to do absolutely anything necessary to ensure my baby's safety and eventual freedom.
"I'll do whatever it takes," I promised myself whenever doubts crept in. "Whatever it takes to get my baby back."
At least they weren't forcing me to kill Nathan himself. That would have been a line I couldn't cross, regardless of the consequences.
"Why not just kill Nathan?" I had asked them early on. "Why target this Isabella person?"
"We have our reasons," was all they would say.
In all honesty, despite everything, I couldn't bring myself to contemplate harming Nathan directly. It wasn't simply because he was physically powerful enough to crush me with minimal effort. Something deeper held me back - some lingering emotional connection I couldn't fully sever.
"I still care about him," I admitted to myself one night. "Despite everything he did."
Yes, even though our relationship had been built on deception and he had never truly loved me, treating me more like property than a partner, he remained my first real intimate relationship. He was my husband in the eyes of whatever law governed these strange supernatural communities. He was my baby's father.
"It's complicated," I whispered to my reflection one night. "So complicated."
I stood examining my new appearance in the full-length mirror, marveling at how completely different I looked, when the young vampire Lycan prince approached silently from behind me and sensually licked my neck. "You look absolutely gorgeous now," he purred against my skin.
I immediately pulled away from his unwelcome touch. "Please don't do that. I've asked you repeatedly not to touch me without permission."
He opened his mouth in exaggerated shock. "And why is that? Could it be that you still harbor feelings for Nathan despite everything?"
I shook my head firmly. "No, that's not it at all. But I don't have any romantic feelings for you either."
He was undeniably handsome - young, powerful, and physically attractive by any standard. But to me, he would always be the creature who had threatened my baby's life and forced me into this terrible situation. I could never see past that initial trauma.
"I hate what you're making me do," I told him plainly. "I'm only cooperating because of my child."
He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "And here I was planning to make you my wife! The next queen of all vampires! You could rule by my side for eternity."
His words left me completely unmoved. The prospect of vampire royalty held absolutely no appeal compared to the simple life I dreamed of with my child.
I furrowed my brow and walked away from him. "I'm not interested in titles or power. I just want to complete this mission and leave with my baby. Nothing more, nothing less."
He laughed with a chilling, almost witchlike cackle and quickly moved to caress my cheeks with his cold fingers. "And how exactly do you think you're going to accomplish that on your own?"
I simply shrugged, stepping away from his touch again. "You all claimed to have a comprehensive plan. I'm just following your instructions."
I turned to face him again, only to find him suddenly just inches from my face. Before I could react, he wrapped his strong arms around my waist in an iron grip. "Yes, we do have a detailed plan," he whispered, licking my neck again despite my obvious discomfort. "According to our strategy, you will work as a fashion model for approximately one year. During that time, Nathan will inevitably discover you. Then you will return with him to his castle and eliminate Isabella when the opportunity presents itself."
"A whole year?" I asked, dismayed by the timeline. "That's so long to be separated from my baby."
It seemed like an eternity to wait! I had already been away from my child for weeks during this "preparation" phase.
I blinked rapidly, trying unsuccessfully to free myself from his grip. "Isn't my physical transformation enough? What more could possibly be needed?"
