Chapter 2

VERA POV

“Can you believe it, Vera? I'm Luna!” my sister squealed, holding on tightly to me in excitement while I just stood at the same spot, stiffened in a daze as I tried to process what had just happened.

“No, I actually can't.” I blinked my eyes severally to stop the tears from rolling out of my eyes.

"I know, right? It still feels like a dream! You must be over the moon!”

My eyes were fixated on Alpha Blake the whole time as I wondered why he had done what he did.

Marking my sister was equivalent to rejecting me and it tore at my heart. I felt like I would faint at any moment as I was already feeling light-headed.

“Everyone, I present to you, your Luna.” He said in a loud voice and the clapping resumed while I slowly peeled off Tricia's hands from my skin.

“Enjoy yourself. I'll be back.” I said feigning a smile and began walking out as I tried my best not to let the tears fall.

Why does this have to happen to me in front of everyone? What exactly did I do wrong to the moon goddess that would make her treat me this way?

“Vera.” I heard a familiar voice behind me and I spun around only to be met with the face of the person that I'd rather not see at this point in time.

“You knew? You knew I was your Luna and for some reason you picked my sister over me?” I glared at him as he stared at me with a poker-faced expression.

“You're right Vera. I knew you were my Luna,” He said nodding his head in acknowledgment, “I knew but there is no way I would actually pronounce you my Luna in front of the whole pack, Don't tell me you thought of that?” he tilted his head to the side and I squinted my eyes in confusion.

“What do you mean? Why can't you pronounce me your Luna?” I yelled, ignoring how he was trying to keep his voice as low as possible, staring back and forth to check if anyone was coming.

“Vera, my pack needs a Luna but not just any Luna, a strong one. One that would be able to defend them if the situation arises, and you of all people know that you are not that Luna. Vera, your wolf alone is a disgrace.” I stepped back blinking back the tears that were threatening to roll out of my eyes.

“A disgrace? I'm not the moon goddess that bestowed such a wolf upon myself, and it hurts even more to know that my fated mate thinks that I am a disgrace. I could handle it from anyone else, but you—you were supposed to be my savior!” I choked on my tears as I used the back of my palm to wipe my tears out of my face.

“Vera, no one must hear that you're my mate.” he warned and tucked the strand of hair that was lying over on my face before walking off so casually and I fell to the floor.

The moon goddess can just take me already. I don't deserve this life!

Just as I lay on the floor crying and the cold dew hit my skin, I felt someone push me with the boots of their shoes.

I looked up to find Lana and I bit my lips. Bad timing!

“Crying? You look horrible.” She said and squatted so she could reach my eyes.

My face was red and puffy due to all the crying and I wasn't sure I was mentally stable to be anywhere near her.

“You're so ungrateful. You're crying because your mate chose to be mated to a beta? Don't tell me you're jealous of her, your sister,” she said, raising my chin with her hand before pulling my hair roughly.

“Why do you like picking on me?” I asked in between ragged breaths and a smirk tugged at the end of her lips.

“I don't like weak wolves. You're a menace,” she stated and pulled my hair with even more force, dragging me up.

My body followed suit as she pulled me up. But today, I was different from usual. Summoning the courage to fight back, I sent my hands to her back and pulled both of her ponytails.

She screeched as she let go of my hair and tried to wiggle out of my grasp.

“Why did you let go? I thought we were playing a game?” I asked holding her hair tightly while kicking her knees so she fell to the floor harshly with her knees.

“Let go of me!” she yelled as she tried to wiggle out of my grasp.

“I'm not doing that.” I mouthed with a maniacal smile on my lips. So much for the ‘strong wolves.’

“I will get back at you for this.” She yelled as she held onto my hand which was pulling her hair.

“Really? How? Remember I said I will get back to you in a few hours? Things turned sour and this is the best way to get back at you now.” I nodded slowly, reminiscing on what my comeback would have been.

“Arghh!” She yelled when I twisted her arms out of my way, still holding her hair firmly before shoving her to the ground.

“What are y'all doing? Get her!” she yelled at her minions who was approaching near-by, and they charged towards me but I drew out a dagger from the hilt of her belt where she laid.

“I don't mind cutting you open. Even if I'm tried for attempted murder and get killed, I would be a fulfilled wolf.” I said, smiling maniacally as the pain from Gideon’s rejection coursed through my body, fuelling my need for blood to be splattered on my hands.

One of them dumbly rushed towards me and I pushed her away from me, mistakenly cutting her open with the knife and they stared at me with horror-filled eyes.

“If I kill you today, I’d have no regrets.” I went over to Lana and kicked her foot, I pulled her up by the hair and slapped her on each side of the face.

“All these years you've haunted and taunted me and I've been scared of you,” I started amidst ragged breaths as I slapped her again, “But now, it's certainly okay if I die.” I punched her face and blood ran out of her nose.

“Someone help!! She's trying to kill us!” One of the girls yelled repeatedly and I threw a stone at her to shut her up, and it missed her face by just a breath.

“What's going on?” the guards saw me with the dagger and immediately rushed towards me, but as the first one held me on the shoulders, I shoved him hard and he landed with a thud on the other side of the wall as blood ran out of his mouth. I stared at my hands, terrified of what just happened.

The other men behind him were also blown backward by an invisible force field and I kept staring at my hands strangely.

Did I have such strength? Was I the one who shoved him like that?

Oh my goodness! I gasped and turned to stare at the girls. Well, at least it’s good riddance, they would never try to talk to me ever again.

I heard some ruffling from behind the trees and I looked up to meet someone who seemed like he melted with the darkness itself.

His pair of mismatched black and green eyes were the only thing that stood out in the darkness.

“Impressive.” He mouthed and when I blinked, he was no longer there.

I think I'm going crazy.
