There was a knock on the door. The pounding continued until I crawled out of bed, wrapped myself in my robe and checked the time. It was midnight.

Who could be here by this time? I thought as I walked to the front door.

I saw the blue and red lights flashing. I unlocked the door quickly. It was the police. “What's happening?” I asked, my heart dropping.
