I looked around again. There were gold and white balloons everywhere. Ribbons, fairy lights, candles. The whole restaurant was decorated. Inflated letter balloons were spelling my name and Happy Birthday.

“Awwhh, my sweet baby,” Melanie cooed, coming over to hug me. “Happy birthday, soul sister.”
