It took me a few moments but I was able to push a bit of the guilt away. I returned to the living room where they remained, talking amongst themselves. When they saw me, they immediately went silent.

“I'm fine,” I said, assuring them. “It’s just hard to believe that I had talked to him yesterday and now, he was dead. It's a little too unreal.”
