Matilda's pov

When the wind was beyond the pack boundaries, it was lighter, cooler, and appeared to be carrying fewer expectations and eyes. Maybe that's what kept me going, even if every step I took toward Selene's new house made my chest constrict.

Really, it wasn't a house. Just a cottage that the council had her move into, far enough away from the pack lands to prevent any wolf from accusing me of showing partiality. A place of forgiveness, but never trust.
