Since the attack, the camp had not calmed down. Clusters of warriors spoke, some glancing at me, others at the blood that still stained the training yard. Every glance brushed against me. I desired their removal. I desired quiet.

However, through the trembling sound in my ears, I heard Matilda's voice.

Maybe I wouldn't need to keep proving that I could stand on my own once you stopped viewing me as a liability.

Her words would cling to me like a pair of heels.
