Cole merely shrugged his shoulders as his gaze stayed locked on me, calm and maddeningly confident. “Pretend to be my girlfriend,” he repeated, like it was the most logical and simple thing in the world.

For a moment, I just stood there staring blankly at him. Then, I burst out laughing loudly. The kind of laughter that came out unfiltered with bitterness because it hurt too much to keep inside. ...
