I stared at him, eyes wide and jaw slack, with my feet rooted to a spot as I let my bag drop freely to the ground.

Of all the things I’d expected the night to throw at me, seeing Cole was the last. For some seconds, I found myself wishing the ground would just open up and swallow me whole.
