Kyra and I finally made it to the hospital that evening. We hadn’t gone the day before as planned because schoolwork had kept us too occupied, and honestly, I had dragged my feet around too much, and they were already threatening to give up on me.

Walking into Mum’s room, I felt a wave of relief wash through me on seeing her awake and looking nothing like the pale structure that was rushed into the emergency unit a few days ago.
