I was discharged later that evening.

The doctor gave me some pills for anxiety and strict instructions to rest, but I barely heard him. Everything felt distant, like I was watching my life through thick fog from the window I was still staring at.

Dad led the nurse who pushed me in a wheelchair to the car. He opened the door and helped me in. He crossed the car in two strides before hopping into the driver’s seat.
