"Mommy, is this really ours?" Lily bounces on the small sofa in our new apartment, her stuffed elephant clutched tight against her chest.

"Yes, baby. This is our home now," I say, setting down the last box of our meager belongings and trying to keep the emotion out of my voice. After eight months of sleeping in a car, having four walls and a door that locks feels like a miracle.
