I'm watching Brett's press conference on my phone when Mrs. Dorathy arrives to pick up Lily for their weekly library trip.

"My word," she says, peering over my shoulder. "He's really doing it, isn't he?"

"He's really doing it." I can barely breathe watching him defend our relationship to the entire world. "He's choosing us over everything."
