The sky above the mountain hideaway looked like a damaged violet, and the air bit at my skin like shards of glass. Julian’s arms were around me, warm and fierce, but even his touch could not quiet the tremor of fear still hiding under my ribs.

“Tell me what’s in your head,” he whispered against my hair.
