Chapter 4
Hazel Coleman
“I'm sorry, Ms. But you lost the baby.”
My breath caught as the doctor released the news to me.
For a moment, I sat on the hospital bed, staring into space blankly, unsure what to do. Whether to burst into tears or scream my lungs out.
“I know how hard it is, Ms. You'll be fine.” The doctor patted my shoulder, and as he turned to leave, I spoke.
“How did I end up in the hospital?”
He paused and turned to me. “You were brought in by the emergency service.”
I huffed silently as a drop of tears slid down my cheek.
I shouldn't be disappointed, but still, I couldn't help it. Liam really chose her over me… over our baby.
The doctor stepped out.
My grip tightened on the blanket. It's all Liam's fault! He killed our baby!
Speak of the devil… He walked in at that moment, but stopped once our eyes met.
My inside boiled with rage. I can't believe I fell in love with and got married to this man without seeing through him.
“Hazel…” He came to me, but I shot him a glare, and he backed off.
“How are you feeling now?”
“What do you think? That I feel good after losing our baby?”
Colours drained from his face. “What?”
“We…were you pregnant?” His voice cracked.
Whoa! Acting remorseful now, huh?
“Why didn't you tell me about it? Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?” He closed the distance between us and held my shoulders, his eyes locked on me.
“Would it have changed anything? Would it have changed the fact that you already chose another woman over us?” I screamed in my head, but just stared at him silently.
He scoffed, his grip loosened on me. “Did you get rid of the baby to get my attention?”
I froze, my brows furrowed. “What?”
“Did you lie that you lost the baby when you actually got rid…”
SLAPS!
His hand flew to hold his burning cheek that I just slapped, his eyes widened.
“How dare you accuse me of killing my child?” I yelled, ignoring the pain that shot through my abdomen.
He huffed. “Seriously, Hazel? How could you be so heartless? Just because I didn't share the bed with you last night, you got rid of our baby and filed for a divorce?”
My heart sank. My lips trembled as they parted, but no words came out.
“Li…am?”
“I will never forgive you for this, Hazel. I'm going to make you pay for this!” And with that, he walked to the door, but paused and turned back to me.
“Divorce? Hmph! In your dream!” And with that, he walked out of the ward, slamming the door hard behind him.
I wasted three years of my life for this? I should never have married him.
I reached for my phone, and once I switched it on, a message popped on the screen.
George;
‘I started working on the divorce papers, Ms. Coleman. It should be ready in a few weeks. Please bear with me’.
It didn't matter if the divorce papers came now or later. Once I leave this hospital, I'm going to my dad.
Someone walked in, and as I lifted my gaze, I saw Emilia. She stood before me, arms crossed in front of her, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.
“Look at you… Pathetic!” She chuckled.
“I told you, Hazel… You have no place in Liam's life. He is mine.”
I tightened my jaw.
“When you called him earlier, it only took me a little effort to keep him to myself… Do you still think I'm bluffing?”
I remained silent and calm.
“What? Cat got your tongue?”
“Whatever! Were you really so jealous that you got an abortion just to prove a point?” She laughed.
That was my last string that she just pulled.
I grabbed the first thing my hand reached… A mug, aiming at her mouth, but it crashed against her forehead instead as she dodged it.
She screamed as her hands flew to her forehead, blood dripping down them.
“Nice shot.” I chuckled.
Liam rushed in, but froze, his eyes widened once he saw the blood on her face.
“Hazel! What have you done?” He snapped at me as he gathered her in his arms.
“Well, she started it.” I shrugged casually.
I had never felt so satisfied like I felt now, seeing the blood on her face.
“Liam… It hurts.” She cried out.
“You'll pay for this!” He glared hard at me before leaving with her in his arms.
Once they were gone, I reached for my phone and put a call through to my dad.
“Darling… I've been waiting for your call. Are you okay?”
“No, I'm not. I should've listened to you.” I wanted to cry to him… I wanted to tell him how unfair Liam was to me… how I'd just lost my baby and he still blamed me for it, but I held everything in.
I can't tell him about it. He'd want to deal with Liam and his family right away, but that's not what I wanted. They need to feel the pain for a long time before I finally crush them.
“Hmm… I'm fine, dad.”
“Dad…” I bit my lip as tears blurred my vision. “I'm ready to come home.”
“I'm glad you are ready to come back now. Sean will be there to pick you up first thing tomorrow morning. Send me your address.”
I blinked.
My stepbrother? Is he back from abroad?
