The Proposal I ever Wanted

The city glowed that night, dressed in a million glittering lights as though it knew something monumental was about to happen. From the balcony of Ayo's penthouse, I could see the skyline shimmer, unaware that the true brilliance was yet to unfold.

I thought it would be another ordinary evening. Ayo had told me to dress "beautiful but comfortable," his eyes glinting with secrets he refused to share. He had arranged for a driver to take me to a location I didn't know, his instructions simple: "Trust me."

And I did. With every breath in my chest, I trusted him.

---

The car pulled up to the entrance of a secluded garden, hidden behind wrought-iron gates that opened like a curtain revealing a private stage. I gasped as soon as I stepped out.

Lanterns lined the pathway, their soft glow leading into the heart of the garden. Roses-red, white, and blush pink-cascaded in archways above me. Tiny fairy lights twinkled like captured stars, guiding me deeper inside.

The air smelled of jasmine and roses, sweet and intoxicating. Gentle music floated on the breeze, a live quartet hidden among the hedges playing a melody that tugged at my soul.

And then I saw him.

Ayo stood at the center of the garden, beneath a canopy of crystal chandeliers suspended from the trees. He wore a black tailored suit that hugged his frame perfectly, a silk tie the color of midnight, and a look in his eyes that made my knees weaken.

He smiled when he saw me, that boyish, devastating smile that had undone me from the very beginning.

---

"You... you did all this?" I whispered as I approached, my hand covering my mouth in disbelief.

"For you," he said simply, his voice low and steady. "Every single light, every rose, every note in the air-it's all yours."

I felt tears prick at my eyes already. "Ayo, this is... it's like a dream."

He extended his hand, and when I placed mine in his, he pulled me gently toward him.

"It's not a dream," he murmured. "It's the beginning of forever."

---

We walked together through the carpet of petals that had been laid at our feet. Around us, flickering candles stood in tall glass holders, their flames swaying with the night breeze. The chandeliers above glittered, reflecting against Ayo's eyes, which never left mine.

My heart thundered in my chest. I knew what was coming, and yet I felt completely unprepared for the wave of emotions threatening to drown me.

---

"Ayo," I whispered, "you don't have to do all this. I'd have said yes even in the smallest room, with nothing but you."

He stopped walking and turned to me fully. His thumb brushed my cheek as he looked at me with an intensity that made the world vanish.

"I know," he said softly. "But after everything we've been through, after the lies, the betrayals, the nights I thought I would lose you forever-I want this moment to tell you everything I couldn't say before. I want the world to know that I see you, that I choose you, and that nothing-nothing-will ever take you away from me again."

My tears spilled freely then, hot against the cool night.

---

And then, he dropped to one knee.

The world seemed to hold its breath. The music softened, the candles flickered higher, and the garden fell into a silence so profound it was as though the heavens themselves leaned closer to listen.

Ayo reached into his pocket and pulled out the small velvet box. My heart nearly stopped as he opened it, revealing the diamond ring that had already stolen my breath days ago. But this time, it wasn't hidden, it wasn't secret. This time, it shone in the open, a promise carved in light.

His voice trembled slightly, though his eyes remained steady, unwavering as they locked on mine.

"You," he began, his words heavy with emotion, "you are my anchor and my wings. You are the reason I survived when the world wanted to destroy me. When I had nothing, you gave me hope. When I was lost, you became my home. I can win all the battles, reclaim every title, and drown in wealth-but none of it means anything without you by my side."

He paused, his throat tightening, and I covered my mouth, sobbing silently.

"I want to spend every sunrise watching you smile, every storm holding your hand, every night falling asleep to the sound of your breath. So I'm asking you-" His voice broke, and he swallowed hard before continuing. "-will you marry me?"

---

Time stood still.

The world blurred until there was only him, kneeling in the glow of candlelight, holding out a piece of forever. My body trembled, my heart felt like it would burst, and before I even realized it, the word tore from my lips-

"Yes!" I cried, my voice choked with tears. "Yes, Ayo! A thousand times yes!"

The relief, the joy, the sheer overwhelming love that filled his face at that moment was something I would carry for the rest of my life. He slipped the ring onto my finger, his hands trembling, and then rose, pulling me into his arms.

The crowd of hidden staff and musicians erupted softly in applause, but their sound was drowned out by the thunder of my heartbeat as his lips met mine.

It wasn't just a kiss. It was an oath, sealed in fire and devotion, an unspoken vow that echoed louder than any words ever could.

---

For what felt like hours, we stayed in that embrace, lost in the cocoon of the moment.

But then, as the music swelled and laughter bubbled from my lips, a shadow stirred at the edges of the garden.

A figure. Watching. Waiting.

Andrea.

His face, pale and twisted with rage, hovered in the distance, barely visible in the shadows. My breath caught, fear clawing at my chest.

Ayo noticed too, his grip on me tightening protectively. His jaw clenched, his eyes darkened, but he did not let go of me. Instead, he whispered fiercely in my ear-

"Don't look away. Stay with me. This night belongs to us, not him."

I nodded, my heart pounding. The music swirled louder, the garden shone brighter, and though Andrea's presence lingered like a dark omen, he could not touch us-not in this sacred moment.

---

Later that night, when the guests departed and the candles dimmed, Ayo and I stood alone under the stars.

I looked at the ring glinting on my finger, then at the man whose love had carried me through storms, and whispered, "I'm yours. Always."

And he, with fire in his eyes, answered, "Forever."

The future was uncertain. Andrea's shadow loomed, battles still waited ahead. But for that night, beneath the stars and the scent of roses, the world finally belonged to us.
