Sign the divorce papers

Lyra’s POV

Two days in that mansion felt like two years in hell.

Every moment was a fresh wound.

I was a ghost in my own home. The servants whispered and avoided my eyes. I tried to eat once, sitting at the far end of the table but Rylan’s disgusted eyes took me back to my room.

Every night, I heard Rylan making love with Isla, I listened to their moaning and the next day they’d go on about my day, with Isla trying very obviously to let me know how intense their lovemaking session was. How Rylan would state over and over that she was way better than I was.

And Evan…. My son wouldn’t look at me, he’d not take the food I prepared for him, and he’d always choose to be with Isla all day rather than to spend a minute with me.

Yesterday, I cooked for him. I entered the kitchen to prepare his favorite dishes, but he would not even look at the food for a second, poured it on the floor, and claimed he was scared of poison.

Poison him? That was it. That was when I told myself I had no chance here again. My own son really thought I was going to poison him?

If I couldn’t create a soft spot for myself in my son’s heart what can I do about Rylan? Nothing, absolutely nothing.

The only thing this marriage offered was pain and endless cries. And I’m done crying! I’m done crying for a husband who wouldn’t look at me twice and for a son who took my caring as an inconvenience.

It’s all so messed up.

And that's why that morning, I promised to put an end to all of that.

I would make Rylan sign the divorce papers. I was ready to start over. It was a decision I made overnight. With Rylan's cold behavior, I had never thought of signing a divorce with the hope that he was going to change, but right now, the only thing that changed was my life; from being merely tolerated to being completely disregarded.

My hands shook as I showered, as I pulled on clean clothes. In the mirror, I barely recognized myself, my cheeks were hollow with a gaunt look. I looked like I was dying, maybe I was.

I grabbed my purse and walked to the garage, my heart pounding. Just get to the lawyer. Sign the papers and end this nightmare.

I walked to the garage and reached for my car keys but before I could, a guard walked closer and stood sternly.

“Lady Lyra.” He said. “I’m sorry. You can’t take the car.”

The words didn’t register at first. “What?” I raised an eyebrow in shock.

“Alpha Rylan gave an order, no vehicles without his permission.”

The humiliation was a physical blow, a sharp gasp fell from my lips as I took a step backward.

“He said I shouldn’t…..”

“Drive a car without his permission.” He finished the words for me.

I don’t know what else to do, arguing with the guard is going to get me humiliated.

So I did the only thing I could do, I pulled out my phone and dialed Rylan’s number with trembling fingers.

I watched as the phone rang, once, twice…. I thought he’d not pick up but then he did.

“What?” His voice was breathless, like he was gasping for air

“Rylan, I need to go….”

A moan cut through the line before I could even finish the statement.

“Oh god, Rylan….yes…right there….” The voice screamed.

I wasn’t so sure about the voice but I know it belonged to Isla. She had to be the one.

I let out a deep sigh. This was it. I couldn’t continue with this anymore.

He knew. He knew he’d answered. He wanted me to hear it. Wanted me to know how good she made him feel. How much he wanted her.

How much he never wanted me.

I hung up and doubled over, vomiting into the flowers nearby. My whole body shook. Tears streamed down my face as I dialed the taxi, barely able to see the numbers through my blurred vision.

-----

The ride downtown passed in a haze. The driver kept glancing at me in the mirror. I must have looked insane, crying silently, staring at nothing.

Finally, I got to my destination, brought a handkerchief to wipe my face before paying the driver, and stormed out.

I walked inside the building and to our lawyer’s office.

I knocked on the door and his thick voice came in response, I walked in and sat on the visitor’s chair.

“Mrs. Creed.” His eyes widened when he saw me. “Are you alright? You look….”

“Ignore my look….I need divorce papers.” My voice was dead.

“Divorce? But you and Alpha Rylan….”

“Please.” The word broke. “Please, I just need the documents.”

Something in my face made him stop asking. He nodded slowly and disappeared into his inner office.

My phone buzzed, I wasn’t in the mood to check on a message so I slid my phone inside my bag, waiting patiently

Hours passed in a blur and the lawyer came with a worried look, holding the file like he was having a second thought.

I stood up, walked over, and snatched it from him.

“Thank you,” I murmured before turning to leave.

“Are you sure?” He asked, causing me to pause on my tracks.

I wasn’t sure if this was the best option but I’m sure it’s going to make me stop seeing Isla and Rylan coop together, it’s going to stop making me see my own son choosing Isla over me.

I gave him a slight nod.

“I’m sure.” With that, I left his office.

Night had fallen by the time I got back. The house was quiet and I wondered what was happening. By this time, they were supposed to be having a family dinner together.

I shook my head and made my way to Rylan’s office. He’d definitely be in his home office given that today is Saturday.

I opened the door without a knock, a decision I’d never made before.

Rylan was sitting at his desk, he looked so focused until he saw me, he smirked, his eyes surveying me from head to toe before he returned to his paper.

My heart flipped when he hit down his tongue and set his glasses properly.

Stupid heart!

“Rylan, I…..”

“I’m busy.” His voice cut in.

“Yes, I know you are that’s why I assist you on this as your Luna.” My statement must have caught his attention because he raised his head and stared at me intently.

I walked forward and threw the divorce papers on his desk. They were scattered across his documents.

“Divorce papers.” My voice shook despite my best efforts. “Sign them. You and Isla can have each other. You can have Evan.”

My throat tightened at that. I was leaving my son, my baby for them.

I had a feeling that his attitude towards me wasn't hatred, he was just being misled by both Isla and Rylan.

He picked up the papers, his expression changing from disgust to shock.

He went through the paper at a slow pace before returning his face to me, an indifferent smirk crept on his lips and I watched in amazement as he tore the paper.

Did he just…..

“No.” The word fell from my lips. “No, no, what are you…”

He tore them again. And again. Until they were nothing but scraps on his desk.

“Why would you……you hate me! You want her! Why won’t you let me leave?”

He stood, walking around the desk. I backed away instinctively, but he kept coming until my spine hit the door.

Rylan planted his hands on either side of my head, caging me against the wood. His body covered mine, overwhelming, his eyes…. eyes bored into mine.

“You don’t get to step down from your throne as Luna without the Elder Council’s judgment.” His breath was hot against my face and my heart did that stupid flip again.

Rylan’s hand cupped my cheeks, his soft hand melted into my skin and for a second, I hope this could be an act of love, I hope this was him showing me how much he cares about me…..

“You can’t divorce me.” His voice brought me back to reality.

“What?”

He smiled and moved his head close to my ear, his breath tingling my whole soul, he released a soft smile followed by a scoff.

“You can’t divorce me Lyra. This marriage? It isn’t going to end until I want it to and guess what?” He raised his head, my whole body shaking violently. “I am not ending it.”
