When we got back to the house, Lynn was helping Charles lay out the dishes on his long, wooden table. The plates were already loaded with food. Noah sat at one end of the table. Charles took the other. Charles gave Noah a look, and it was hard to guess what it meant. Did he not like that Noah had sat at the head of the table? He was our pack’s Beta. Was that not his seat? But Lynn touched Charles’ shoulder and the look vanished. Okaaay. We all sat quietly.
