“Goddess give me strength,” Miguel muttered to himself once Nix and I immerged from our small cabin.

“Sorry, we kept you waiting,” I apologized to the Beta.

He offered me a passive smile before he launched himself down the barely worn path in the woods. Nix’s hand firmly pressed in the small of my back was a welcomed warmth against the bitter nip of the January cold.
