The forest kept swallowing us as we ran deeper into it. I held Tricia's wrist as hard as I could, sprinting without ever looking back. She mouthing some words, but they kept vanishing before they reached me. Until she suddenly yanked my hands making me stop.

“Blake—wait,” Tricia protested behind me, breath uneven. “No one’s after us. We can stop now. Please.”
