Gina
“You did what?” my mom screamed over the phone. I pulled the phone away from my ear. I winced, my eyes drifted to the King’s sister.
She looked so peaceful it was almost hard to believe she was in a coma. It felt more like she was asleep.
“I took the job, and I had to resume immediately,” I explained, keeping my voice calm. I looked around the room and everything had been in place. Not even a pin was out of place, everything was neatly arranged.
“Regina Robert, if you know what is good for you, you will find a way to leave that pack right now and come home!” she snapped.
“I told you earlier, didn’t I? I told you to come home. Do you even understand that you are in one of the most dangerous territories in the world?”
I had expected her to be upset, but not this dramatic.
“Mum, how do you expect me to leave now? It's almost nightfall, and this place is miles from the city. Do you know how long it took us to get here? I said.
“Besides, I have already taken the job, there is no going back. Don’t worry, I will be careful.”
“I can’t believe you took the job without talking to me first!” she cried. “Gina, you don’t know those people. Please, baby, just come back home. We will find you another hospital anywhere but there.”
I could hear the genuine fear in her voice. She had always hated Lycans and wolves, though she tolerated them because they ruled our world.
But the way she had spoken then, you would think I had signed up for a death sentence.
“I will be fine, Mum. I will ask for a break soon and come home. Please stop worrying about me,” I said gently. “I will talk to you later.”
Before she could say anything else, I ended the call and set the phone beside me with a sigh.
It had been over five hours since I arrived, and no one had come in, not even the nurse assigned to the King’s sister.
Hunger had gnawed at my stomach, and fatigue had spread through my limbs. But that had been the least of my problems. I needed to use the bathroom.
I knocked on the door several times, but no one answered. I even tried the bathroom door in the room, but each time I touched the knob, a small emergency light would flicker red, like there had been a security code or fingerprint lock.
Both the bathroom and the main door had been sealed tight.
Pressing my thighs together, I rocked slightly in frustration. It seemed like they had completely forgotten about me.
My pride was already hanging by a thread, and if no one came soon, I would humiliate myself in the worst possible way.
I stood up from the bed and started pacing around the room to distract my bladder, it felt like it could burst any minute.
Just when I thought I couldn’t hold it any longer, the door suddenly clicked open. I froze, holding my breath, hoping nothing I did would anger whoever it was, these werewolves were temperamental.
“Still here?” The bitch I had met at the hospital earlier walked into the room.
I swallowed hard, trying not to fidget. “I have been waiting for someone to come. The doors were locked, I can’t—”
“Locked?” she cut in. “You mean you couldn’t figure out how to open a door?”
I ignored her taunt. “Please, I need to use the bathroom. I have tried opening it but it has a security code,” I said, wondering why a toilet door would have a security code for crying out loud.
“Your filthy human self wants to share the same toilet with the princess?” She clicked her tongue and shook her head, walking further into the room.
I tried to sidestep her and head outside so I could at least ease myself before I embarrassed myself on the floor of their precious princess’s room.
She grabbed me by the neck and lifted me off the ground as if I weighed nothing.
“Look here, sneaky little human,” she snarled in my face. “I guess you think this is like your normal world where you can express yourself freely and get away with it. But if you try that here, you will die in the blink of an eye.” She tightened her grip, choking me.
Three times in a row, I was choked today. I prayed silently. God, please, let me survive here today. I promise, by tomorrow morning, I will vanish from here.
I tried to hold her hands to stop her from crushing my windpipe. She pushed out her claws, her eyes glowing, and then she pierced my wrist with them.
I couldn’t control my bladder anymore, before I could stop it, my body had gotten soaked, I pissed on myself. She looked down immediately and started laughing.
The door to the room had opened suddenly, and the King stepped in. She quickly dropped me onto the floor, I didn’t know which to clutch first, my neck or my bleeding wrist.
“What’s going on here?” the King had barked.
She ran toward him. “She tried using the princess’s toilet. I quickly tried to stop her, and she peed on herself,” she said.
His gaze went to my pants, and he frowned.
“I wouldn’t have peed on myself if I hadn’t been locked in here for over five hours,” I had said defensively.
“I tried opening the door and banging on it but no one came. I even tried using the bathroom here, but it had a security code.”
The King turned to the lady. “I thought I told you to take her to her room and get her settled in immediately after I left earlier?” he queried her harshly.
What the hell did I even do to this bitch? What was her problem with me? For the first time in my life I wished I were a werewolf. I would rip her heart out of her chest.
“And why hadn’t the nurse been in here for over five hours? You left a stranger with my sister while the nurse was supposed to be here,” the King roared at her.
“I didn’t know the nurse hadn’t been here since. I am sorry, Your Highness. It won’t happen again,” she stammered.
Someone opened the door and Declan came into the room. “Please show our guest to her room.” the King said to him.
Declan looked down at my pants and chuckled.
“Barely twelve hours here and you have already peed your pants, humans are the weirdest species I have seen,” he said before gesturing for me to follow him.
Shame wouldn’t allow me to look at the King, I just walked out of the room with my hair covering my face.
I am leaving this pack before anyone wakes up tomorrow morning.
