Selene did not vanish into shadow unmarked.

She made it three steps from the ravine before her strength faltered.

Just once, only once, her knee buckled, and she caught herself against a standing stone carved with warnings no one read anymore. The glyphs etched into its surface were eroded nearly smooth by time, but she knew them by heart. She had helped translate them once. Had laughed at their caution.
