"I kissed him," I said and the words came out broken. "Jason kissed me and I let it happen for a few seconds before I stopped it. I am so sorry Bruce."

Bruce's face went white. All the color drained from his face like someone had pulled a plug and let everything vital leak out. He stood frozen for a heartbeat.

Then he carefully set Emma deeper into her crib and adjusted her blanket. He left the room without a word and his footsteps were heavy on the hallway floor.
