I began writing my nonfiction leadership book and discovered immediately that it was harder than fiction, I didn't see that coming.

The difficulty was not technical or structural but deeply personal because I could not hide behind characters or plot devices like before with children's books.

I had to say what I actually thought and knew from genuine experience without the protective distance that fictional stories naturally provided writers.
