I had known for three weeks.

The signs had been there long enough that I had stopped being able to ignore them — the particular tiredness that arrived at the same hour each morning and could not be slept off, the way certain smells that had previously been neutral had become suddenly, overwhelmingly significant, the deep, cellular change that had no other explanation.
